Antonio Puig founded a company carrying his name back in 1914 in Spain. The company is international but still 100% family owned. It is concentrated on production of beauty and perfumery products. The year of 1940 meant the first turnstone in the company—since the fragrance Agua Lavanda Puig was launched. The company headquarters were moved to the center of Barcelona and stayed there till today. Antonio’s four sons joined their father’s business and inherited it gradually. Two of them concentrated on perfumery, one of diversification and one on institutional relations. It was in the 1960s that the house started working on the keys to the company’s future expansion. A team of talented people who were able to value a family-owned company was formed. It improved the quality of products by building perfumery and cosmetics laboratories. The company also collaborates with other laboratories on research and applies industrial design to their products. Puig worked on internationalization and opened the first overseas division in 1959, in the USA. Collaboration with Paco Rabanne started and a perfume factory was founded in Chartres in France. A crucial event in the 1980s was signing the contract with Carolina Herrera to create and market all her fragrances. The success with her perfumes spread into the area of fashion industry and the company started producing Herrera’s fashion. In late 1990 one of the first celebrities who created their personal fragrances, Antonio Banderas, formed an agreement for production with Puig. The company’s business grew more and more and they turned on acquiring even more brands and expanding the portfolio of their products. They moved on with Nina Ricci in 1998. Perfumes, cosmetics and fashion were gathered in a holding company named Puig Beauty & Fashion company in 1999. Running the company was taken over by third-generation members and some non-members participating in decision-making processes. After closing deals with several popular Spanish brand, Puig closed one with Comme de Garcons, to distribute and create their products. Puig also worked on development of cosmetics and perfumes for Prada. Another successful collaboration with a famous artist started in 2008 with worldwide star Shakira. The company developed a line of new signature products inspired by and created for the singer. It is in 2009 that the company changed its name what it is today—simply, Puig. A license agreement was signed with Valentino to launch their new fragrance. One of the latest success was acquiring a majority stake in the Jean Gaultier fashion house.
