Crabtree & Evelyn
Crabtree & Evelyn is an American cosmetics company founded in 1970 by Cyrus Harvey. The company's name is said to be inspired by John Evelyn, a 17th century English naturalist and early conservationist who kept an extensive diary of his travels and day-to-day life in England and abroad. The company's symbol is the Crab Apple Tree (Pyrus malus), a tree native to Britain and the botanical progenitor to all varieties of apples cultivated today. Cyrus Harvey founded the company in 1972 as a small family business in Cambridge, MA (USA) offering luxury soaps from around the world. The botanical beauty industry was a new concept at that time, and the company's products expanded to include personal care products featuring the finest botanical essences and aromas. In 1977, the first Crabtree & Evelyn boutique was opened in Philadelphia. Crabtree & Evelyn's company mission is to create products and gifts that transform the ordinary rituals of daily life into extraordinary pleasurable experiences. To that end, the company offers bath and body care products for men and women, as well as perfumes, home fragrances and home accessories for kitchen and bath. The company commissioned the creation of a rose—the Evelyn Rose—to be used in its products. English rose expert David Austin spent eight years and went through 30,000 seedlings before the perfect rose was achieved. The Evelyn Rose is a lovely apricot-blend rose with a beautiful blossom and a luscious scent. The Evelyn Rose is used in Crabtree & Evelyn's signature "Evelyn Rose" fragrance and body care line, where it is combined subtle green accords, peony and a hint of peach. Many Crabtree & Evelyn fragrances are based on classical floral notes, such as Lavender, Rosewater and Iris. The company also produces a spa line, La Source, and offers a line of hand care products aimed at cleaning and protecting the hands of avid gardeners—the Gardners line. A line of men's shaving products are offered in conjunction with British men's shaving acccesories company, Edwin Jagger. Crabtree & Evelyn partnered with designer and model India Hicks in 2007 to produce a special collection of women's body care and home fragrance products. The Crabtree & Evelyn company was sold in 1996 to KLK. Crabtree & Evelyn boutiques are now available in 40 countries worldwide, through Crabtree & Evelyn shops and select boutiques. Designer Crabtree & Evelyn has 45 perfumes in our fragrance base. The earliest edition was created in 1970 and the newest is from 2015. The nose who worked on the fragrances is Donna Ramanauskas.
