Reviews

Angéliques Sous La Pluie is an intriguing yet pleasing aromatic fougère scent. It has that Jean-Claude Ellena light touch, with a green, whimsical, forest-like vibe. While leaning toward masculine, it sometimes evokes a cool drink's essence, thanks to its juniper and angelica notes. Warm yet refreshing, this bittersweet blend of herbs and spices is inviting. The pine-like juniper and angelica shine throughout, adding their distinct character. Citrus brings a crisp touch, and the angelica soon steps in, adding its unique flair. This spicy-herbal phase is rich but soft, and it has that damp, herbal quality that ties back to "pluie." As it fades, it settles into a woodsy, musky-herbal skin scent. However, the longevity isn't great—sillage diminishes fast and it becomes a light skin scent after just an hour. It would make a nice spring/summer daytime fragrance for someone who prefers subtle scents. Given its lackluster performance, it's a bit overpriced. I’d suggest going with French Lover instead. Overall, a fleeting charm but not worth the price. 3/5.

The fragrance is quite appealing when first applied, offering a fresh and spicy vibe with prominent pepper notes. However, it doesn't last very long—only about 15 minutes before needing another spray. It reminds me a lot of Diptyque's Eau De Lier, which stays on my skin for hours. The FM version is a bit softer but still retains that sharpness and pepperiness. Overall, it's a good option if you're looking for something similar at a more affordable price.

They recommended this fragrance for me through their online questionnaire after I filled it out on the Frederic Malle website. Just like the other two suggestions they made, this one doesn't quite fit me either. After purchasing the entire collection, it's clear that there’s a mismatch between my preferences and what they offer. While pleasant, it’s simply not my style.

This heavenly scent is an underrated gem within the FM line. It’s one of the most unique and interesting fragrances I’ve come across, exquisitely pleasant yet never boring or linear. Its simplicity is refreshing, making it inoffensive yet standout. I’ve grown to love it more than any other fragrance I own because it doesn’t try to be anything—no pretense here. It stands out and makes a statement without fitting into typical categories like sexy, masculine, feminine, or woody. The cedar base is so well-rounded that it doesn’t evoke woodiness at all, giving it a slightly medicinal quality while still feeling natural and wet, like the essence of a green, damp jungle. Unlike most perfumes, this scent isn’t stationary—it fluctuates around you. It has a minty edge that completely redefines any association with musk, making it something people don’t immediately recognize as a traditional perfume. Its dewy, rain-like quality, combined with notes of Angelica, sets it apart from anything else out there. It refuses to be labeled or categorized, which is part of what makes it so baffling and art-like! The reason I love it so much is that every time I smell it, it transports me back to Miami in the summer—hot, rainy, blooming with flowers, and a quiet sense of majesty. The scent brings comfort and magic, connecting me to those memories. *Angelique Sous La Pluie* is whimsical! It makes me imagine fairies, like what Tinker Bell might smell like. That’s such an odd association, but it captures the perfume’s unusual charm.

The opening of this fragrance feels fresh with a bitter, spicy, tonic, and flowery vibe—Jean-Claude Ellena masterfully captures the pure scent of angelicas, reminiscent of Louis Feraud's "Sunshine Eau d'Ete" in its initial spray. Over time, the fragrance becomes warmer and softer, almost sweeter, before fading into a lingering scent of dried angelica and forest berries. It’s a great choice for early spring or autumn days.
