Reviews

What fragrance could be a daytime version of BS?

Quite distinct from Million and far superior. Great packaging, bottle and wonderful, fresh, minty scent. Exceptional and underrated.

This is a really nice blend that can stand up to or even surpass most recent designers. Why? It smells more natural than so many of those and it's more interesting. Why are there are more negative reviews than make sense (to me)? Perhaps it's due to the expectations of most of those who buy it. That is, they either want a party scent or something in the industrial direction, such as Gucci Homme Absolute (with aroma chemicals being used in large amounts). Instead, this is a "nice" scent with a touch of this and that (mint, something that comes across as having a hint of burnt rubber, etc.), the kind of scent that doesn't get irrritating after a short while and yet remains interesting and pleasant. Also, a new 100 ml tester with cap cost me less than $12 total. How can today's designers compete against this? Most of those I'd guess (from experience) are actually more "chemical" than cheapos like this one! But most importantly to me, can the scent be enjoyed for hours? Yes, this one can. Criticisms about a scent being boring, with no further explanation, are puzzling to me. How many scents, some of them niche and selling for a lot of money, are dominated by vanilla, tonka, or amber - are they all boring? I know what I like, and I'd rather wear a pleasant, inexpensive scent with a little something different included than some new designer with a chemical overload that leads to headaches within an hour and never smells pleasant! As to aesthetic issues, the bottle is nice, but I'd go with a deep, dark red and not black, and I'd name it something like Soul of an Artist, as Black Soul conjures up the notion that that might be along the lines of Black Tourmaline or a scent of that type.

Striking opening with so-called niche complexity à la Amouage. Now I look and see nose Carlin has done 2. A convincing teenage black i.e. black glitter and glossy spray paint effect. Carlin has done 4 Icebergs and 4 Ferraris. After an hour, pleasant smoked tea & spiced cookie aroma. I wish the mint lasted longer and camphor/menthol was stronger. The lack of funk and damp makes this easy and safe for any age. My 2019 bottle no doubt missing the possibilities of the oughts. Applied with a heavy hand, Black Soul could fabulously replace some young dude's Axe. 20 bucks in Europe and quality presentation. Recommended!

I can certainly see how Black soul may polarize opinions. If however you are one of those lucky enough to love this fragrance , then you will enjoy this scent for ages. Mugler Pure Havane was the reference point for gourmand winter scents by me in the past. Now, after wearing Black Soul for a few days, its safe to say there is a new king on the throne. What gives Black Soul the edge is a hard to define element in the drydown that makes for a uniquely pleasing and unusual effect. Well rounded, dynamic, always interesting and a bargain at todays prices. Good stuff ! 8.75/10
