Reviews

This scent begins with a strong woody aroma from the patchouli, followed by the delicate iris note that I really appreciate. The musk and amber add depth and warmth, creating a balanced, slightly spicy fragrance that's soft and not overpowering. While it has a masculine edge to it, when worn by a woman, it transforms into a feminine scent. Overall, it's lovely!

Calamity J is warm and inviting, with a soft, sweet, and powdery animalic quality. It feels like wrapping yourself in a snug fur wrap, even though it’s artificial, still manages to feel luxurious. The scent of a spiced dessert contrasts beautifully with its velvety texture. I’m not sure about the "gun-toting bad girl" vibe here—it feels a bit intense and bold for that image, but it’s definitely not polite or boring. This and Citizen Queen are the house’s best attempts at capturing that classic Guerlain elegance and quiet luxury.

I really like JHAG’s sample pack because it offers ample amounts for a few wears, which I’m okay with even though they’re dab bottles instead of sprays. I’ve enjoyed all the scents I’ve tried so far but haven’t reviewed them yet. While they may not be groundbreaking, the quality justifies the price, especially on discount sites. Patchouli, amber, and musk are my favorite notes, and Calamity J. definitely drew me in with its promises of boldness and strength. The amber in Calamity J. is rich and deep, even deeper than Serge Lutens Amber Sultan, which I consider the standard for dry ambers. Patchouli here is earthy and robust, unlike the gourmand versions from Coromandel or Christian Lacroix’s C’est La Fete Patchouli, which leans sweeter. The sillage and longevity are impressive too—fragments lingered for over half a day and kept me sniffing all day. I compared it to Calypso’s Amber, which is a strong amber-patchouli blend but not as long-lasting or expensive. For value alone, Calypso seems like a solid choice. I’m holding off on adding Calamity J. to my collection unless I spot an unbeatable deal. You can never have too many great amber or patchouli scents!

This smells kind of salty and ambery, with some patchy and fluffy notes. It feels theoretical, almost like liquorice and marshmallow mixed together, along with a mink coat vibe. There's also a graphite and cinnamon element. What do you think it is?

Although I didn’t catch the specific notes, Calamity J smells a lot like incense to me. It has this serious, heavy vibe, almost like being in a grand Catholic church with its long aisles, stained glass windows, and echoes lingering in the air. But honestly, I’m not religious. In fact, wearing this scent makes me feel a bit mischievous, like I might flick holy water just to watch it bubble—though maybe that’s just my imagination running wild. This is such a unique fragrance with its own strong personality, so it definitely needs someone confident and bold to pull it off. It’s dark, intense, and not for the shy or unsure. But hey, if you’re feeling a little devilish and love something untamed, this could be your go-to scent—fun and memorable every time!
