Reviews

This perfume is invigoratingly refreshing with a lily of the valley fragrance.

It’s kind of unique that I’m one of the few people who love this scent as much as I do. It was my first fragrance purchase way back in 2008 because I was really into Gwen Stefani and her rasta-colored bottle just spoke to me. While I’m not super skilled at identifying notes, I can definitely pick out the sharp pear blast right away—that’s where that “cleaning product” description probably comes from. It’s got a lot of punch, but unfortunately, it doesn’t stick around for long. After feeling calm and warm on my skin, it quickly fades into a floral, fruit-driven mix that feels like lily of the valley and freesia layered over pear or peach notes. While I don’t get any soapiness from it, there’s something really clean about the scent that’s refreshing but not overwhelming. I remember using the rollerball in 2008, and it lasted much longer than I’ve experienced with the newer versions. Now, just like that other review mentioned, it doesn’t hang around on my skin for more than an hour. It’s pretty sad considering how discontinued perfumes can change over time. Comparing it to Maybe Baby, they’re almost identical if you take away that sharp ginger punch. I can tell them apart, though—I prefer the mellow drydown of L over Maybe Baby, which surprises me because so many people love Maybe Baby but not L. It’s kind of shocking how different their impressions are when they’re so similar otherwise.

I really love wearing this perfume because it lasts a really long time. It still smells great even hours later, and I get so many compliments on it. It makes my list of top five favorites!

"Wearing this perfume feels adorable and has a freesia and pear scent with a watery touch... I'm puzzled by the negative reviews. Skin chemistry can really affect how a perfume comes across. I absolutely love it; it's so cool!"

Now THAT'S a perfume! A perfume is like a blend of different scents that come together to create one unique smell. Otherwise, you end up with a bunch of different notes that make you smell different every few minutes—like switching from rose to vanilla to jasmine to lily of the valley. What's the point? It’s almost like buying a strawberry body spray from The Body Shop! Those mass-produced, mainstream scents aren’t true perfumes, and that’s why people are missing out today. Real perfumes are being overlooked for these boring, sugary smells, which is a shame because the term "perfume" deserves better than that! But here’s where it changes: "L" is the real deal. Created by a team, including Gwen herself, they’ve thought through every detail. This perfume is unisex, so women might spray their partners to get them to use cologne—because there’s no gender vibe here! It smells fresh and clean, like those early '90s family shampoos that everyone could use from one bottle. That versatility makes it perfect for first impressions or any occasion where you’re not sure what to wear. I’ve heard some people talk about a synthetic smell, but that’s not the case. The clean scent is actually natural—not artificial at all. Once you read this and smell it, you’ll get what I mean! Like a real perfume should, it stays consistent from first spray to last—no changes there. One thing I’ll note: the bottle itself is as heavy as a brick. It might be a bit of a hassle to carry around during the day, but even after taking off the gold top, it’s still pretty hefty. However, the style and packaging really complement the perfume’s vibe. Overall, I’d give this perfume an 8/10 for its scent—good but not perfect. Longevity is another story—it lasts a bit better on dry skin, but it’s not a game-changer. If you're looking for something that works well across different contexts and doesn’t change its tune, this could be your go-to.
