The initial application of this perfume starkly recalled NR for Her EDT to me, with its musk notes standing out prominently. However, after having this fragrance for a few months, I can hardly discern any similarity between the two, as I now have both side by side. It's quite peculiar, but...this is truly stunning!
The name "Lalibela" is as enchanting as the fragrance itself, a delectable blend of sweet coconutty goodness. Its complexity and uniqueness astound me, with tobacco leaf expertly blended with coconut, vanilla, and opulent orchids. I'm amazed by its quality. The combination of tobacco and coconut yields a waxy vibe, but the prominent vanilla keeps it well-grounded. This fragrance is not cloying or sickening sweet; instead, it unfolds to reveal white florals, including creamy gardenia. Its undertones evoke Versace Crystal Noir without the pepper. While similar to Micallef Ylang In Gold, it's not a dupe, with no fruity notes and a distinct creaminess from coconut alone. The tobacco leaf is transformative, imbuing the fragrance with its own uniqueness. It has great projection but isn't in-your-face, with no sharp edges or spicy notes. Labdanum is present in the dry down, lasting for hours. The bottle is lovely, though the interior casing could be improved with a plush liner. At over $200, consumers deserve more attention to detail. Nevertheless, Lalibela is my favorite; I'd call it a signature scent for the right individual.
I tested this perfume on a paper strip and was so impressed that I bought it on the spot! Luckily, my personal chemistry didn't alter the scent too much for me, considering its steep price tag. ๐ค At first, I couldn't pinpoint what note had me hooked - but then I asked the friendly staff at MEMO to spray some onto a cotton bag, and that's when the magic happened! ๐ I took it home and sprayed it on my pajama sleeve to see how it would evolve over time. And oh boy, the dry down was incredible! ๐คฉ The next day, I applied two spritzes to each arm and suddenly, I was transported back to my first visit to the Madeira Islands, where I indulged in traditional fennel candies. ๐ To me, this perfume smells like anise or fennel in the background - even though those notes aren't listed (perhaps it's a combination of tobacco and incense?). ๐ค This scent is super unique, and for my untrained nose, I can barely detect any floral notes (maybe some hints of orchid). The sweetness of vanilla and creaminess of coconut are present, but the real star of the show is fennel candies/anise all the way! ๐ If you don't mind smelling like this (I don't at all!), then I highly recommend giving it a try. Just be aware that overspraying can cause headaches and discomfort for sensitive individuals - so use it in moderation! ๐โโ๏ธ
To me, Lalibela has a captivating scent reminiscent of musky florals with a subtle sweetness. Its delicate fusion of floral and musk notes makes it a lovely and elegant fragrance, suitable for evening wear or cooler days.
LALIBELA! my new go-to for warm weather. It's an ultra-creamy blend of Vanilla-Coconut, evoking the opulence of a luxurious beach resort. The tropical and slightly sweet notes are quintessentially feminine, with subtle hints of rose-peony that take a backseat to the prominent coconut and vanilla on my skin. A whisper of incense and patchouli in the background adds depth and longevity to this summer staple. Overall, it's an excellent choice for casual, elegant days when the sun shines bright, earning 7.5/10 from me.
