I used up the reformulated version a few years ago. Its nice enough but not memorable and its at a good price point for a nice feminine old school perfume. Today I got the vintage, 50mls in a beautiful bottle. So so warm and cosy. Its well over twice as powerful than the newer one and so much depth. The longevity is very good - 6-8 hours on me. I can't see anyone being overwhelmed or offended by this powdery delight.. Great for cooler weather but would work well in any season when you want to smell ultra feminine - it reminds me of all the classic oriental perfume greats. Same level as any Cartier, Dior or Guerlain in my opinion. I love patchouli which is so skillfully blended here that it works beautifully and feels like an essence, so if you think you hate patchouli, this one might work for you. The Carnation Rose and Lavender dancing in the middle and just heavenly. The nutmeg is like a single tone that runs through the whole composition. Inotherwords its hard to separate the blend but the result is divine. This is one I am treasuring as a lucky cheap buy in an ebay auction.
This is a nice oriental. Not too strong. It is nothing earth shattering put it is nice for fall or winter.
These reviews are sad reading indeed. My mother wore Maja, I wore Maja as a young girl, and we always took it home from holidays in Spain. Spain was the ONLY place it was availble back then, I think! (ironic, huh?) My memory of the scent is vague now, but I remember it as a spicy, hot, mysterious, spell-binding fragrance. Obviously that's not the case anymore.
Growing up in the seventies - flower power and stuff - I smelled patchouli all around. The young people were using it and the more mature ladies were using patchouli-based perfumes like Maya. I developed a strong dislike to patchouli! Maya was an inexpensive perfume, On sale in supermarkets and drugstores. Because it was so easily available it could be found in most households, I know my grandmother kept a bottle in her bathroom. My own mother was a more refined type, she used Fleurs de Rocaille and Shalimar but we did have the soap! The foto of it just brought back a lot of memories...
Very nice old fragrance. I wish I had an EDP version, as mine is an EDT, so it’s not long lasting. It’s been around for years so they are doing something right 💃
