I love the spicy mint in it and how it is mixed with an iris and the freshly plucked pine needles! It reminds me of a summer camp in the woods... a midnight walk with the hands grasp... the thrill of being loved in this innocent caress of two, sharing the magic of the night. After a few hours it is no longer so innocent... it warms up, the iris stands out, warmed by the amber and then ...an immortal love begins to flicker, but close, so close that only in the aura will be felt that real intimacy.
I was born and grew up in the Finnish countryside so I am very well-acquainted with the smell of evergreen trees like pine and spruce. This evokes some of that foresty smell, but it is by no means literal, so if you are looking for a straight up coniferous concoction, I don't think this is going to scratch your itch completely.
I tested this in the summer and now that it's colder I tried it once more and for the life of me I can't get this to work. I'm not bashing the fragrance as it's GORGEOUS but anything with a slight bit of iris blows up on my skin to the point I can't smell anything else. I spray it and get the minty pine which smells like a summer evening in the forest, then the powdery iris creeps and says "HAVE YOU NOTICED ME YET!?" All I get after is the iris which is such a shame because this smells SO beautiful and soft, very magical if not for that damn iris.. This is my first Annick Goutal purchase and I'm very impressed with the longevity, though it's just powdery. Next time I think I'll purchase the EDT.
This was my first really strong perfume I liked (I'd previously purchased CK Euphoria years prior but it wasn't a good match). It's very different from anything else I own (mostly fresh or fruity florals) but there's something special about it. Even though it was marketed as a summer perfume, I associate it more strongly with winter and the holiday season (and not just because that's when I tried it on and bought it). When I first sprayed it on and let it sit, I immediately thought of christmas trees. The coolness of the mint reminds me of snow and the crisp winter air. And oranges have a long association with christmas. After it sits for a bit, it gets a bit spicy and starts to remind me of a smoky wood fire.
Very lovely scent. Sparkly with spearmint, but doesn't come close to the unpleasant toothpaste/mouthwash note. That mint teams with pine and fir notes that manage to avoid the scratchy bitter vibe that often accompanies them, especially in unisex and men's fragrances. A light floral sweetens the whole blend. Frankly, I love this scent, which is why I'm sort of sad that it lasts no more than 2-3 hours on my skin. Sillage is very light. If you work in an office that frowns on loud fragrances, this might work for you.
