Reviews

Patchouli Intense by Amouage is a quintessential barbershop Fougère that’s dry, bitter, green, and medicinal. It captures the essence of a classic Fougère without being overpoweringly patchouli-heavy.

A fresh blend of spicy geranium and dry patchouli with a touch of warm, powdery notes. This scent is quite distinctive and memorable, sharp and has a long-lasting impression. It’s certainly not for those aiming to go unnoticed or in a professional setting. As if you're crushing fresh geranium leaves between your fingers while patchouli oil is distilled with intense heat in a metal vessel, the scent carries a dry, earthy quality. The patchouli is present in full force, and the geranium here is different from the rose-scented one we're accustomed to—it's more leafy, sharp, and pungent, akin to the aroma of fresh green geranium.

Alright, once again, an intense scent that really feels like a hippy marathon runner! I've always loved the patchouli and sandalwood combination, and this one really nails it. It starts with some citrus, lavender, and geranium in the top notes, which disappear after a couple of hours. Then comes this beautiful Turkish rose note, making me think of Histoires de Parfums' Noir Patchouli, which turns into this 'pink musk stick' vibe in the mid-notes. But PI doesn't go down the sweet route, thanks to its dry sandalwood and strong base. The base has amber, incense, and a touch of leather, taking a while to develop, which is part of what makes it so interesting. As I've noted before, this scent lasts forever. I sprayed it on both wrists nearly 12 hours ago, and it's still going strong! I've heard that its predecessor, Patchouli Homme, is more about longevity, which seems like a good contrast. I'm not confident enough to wear it at work, worried it might be too strong for some people! What else is there to say? As someone who loves patchouli, this sample was worth every penny I spent on it. Given how strong it is and the fact that I don't have many occasions to wear it, I might not need another bottle anytime soon. Overall, great stuff!

I found myself a bit awkward wearing this perfume for just one spray because it's so intense. It lasts for a few hours but isn't overpowering. The longevity feels weaker than I'd expect, and while I can still smell it on my wrist in the afternoon, it doesn’t project as strongly as I’d like. At first, the scent didn't click with me—I wasn't sure if I liked the complexity of its herbal notes over patchouli or chocolate. I even considered selling it but then started to appreciate how the intricate layers give it a sophisticated feel that might not resonate with younger noses. It’s starting to grow on me more, and now I see its elegance and maturity as a unique quality. After trying a few other Nicolais, I notice they all share this complexity, which makes me curious to explore more of their scents in the future.

I couldn't be happier with my discovery of this exceptional creation. A refreshing green-spicy mix of patchouli that stands out among over a dozen patchouli perfumes I've tried. This one is hands down my favorite, and I can confidently say it's far superior to Jovoy Paris Psychedelique.
