Aggressive patchouli and cypriol notes, with a very animalic musc. The rum and cacao notes are not sweet enough to offset the animalic musc. Later the dry woody notes take the stage. It also has a scary phase where I got a strong BO smell, right after application, the BO was like unwashed private parts!!! eww...thankfully it went away in less than 5 minutes. The late drydown is actually very pleasant. But not femenine enough for me and that BO note in the beginning is not something I want to endure. A sample is more than enough.
Oof. This is a powdery amber, but it becomes a pungent baby powder bomb on me with a dose of high-pitched woody ambers. I don't get much nuance as the powder was a bit suffocating, cloying. Not my jam. I don't dislike powdery scents and have a few in my collection. For a powdery amber, I enjoy HDP Ambre 114 more.
This perfume is excellent for western noses. If you are from the Middle East this reminds me of sudanese incense. One problem: performance was not good on me. The opening gives you the impression tgat this fragrance will last forever. However, 2-3 hours in and I had to bury my nose to smell it…
This fragrance reminds me of old fashioned rootbeer, the kind where the sarsaparilla syrup is added straight to the soda water. It is a bit cloying for my skin but if the sweetest woodsy gourmands are your kind of scent, you’ll love this.
Suma Oriental is one of the best perfume finds I hauled. For me personally, this is strictly a winter time fragrance. I get the cacao and rum for sure. That sharp pine-type of scent is there in the opening but I don't get it in the dry down. But what really brings this all together is the patchouli and the creamy cashmere woods. It's just a incredible rich and smooth chocolate fragrance with a slight boozy kick. I love pairing this with Midnight Amber Glow from Bath & Body Works.
