I've been nostalgic for Tabu lately, so I embarked on a search through my perfume collection, rummaging through storage boxes until I finally found it at the bottom. It was definitely worth the effort. I recall being part of a group of girls in school who wore it and unintentionally dominated the atmosphere.
Tabu's overwhelming aroma has been unbearable to me since childhood. It's the sole perfume that prompts an intense aversion in me, detectable from a distance of 10 paces and capable of dominating an entire room. I implore anyone who wears it for its sake, please use it sparingly. The blend of warm spices, woods, and musk is overpowering to my senses. In my opinion, the scent is dated, reminiscent of heavily made-up older women chain smoking in cramped spaces. For me, it lacks redeeming qualities, and I'm astonished that so many reviews on this platform are positive.
As a novice in the world of fragrances, my review may not be authoritative. Nonetheless, I acquired this perfume for my grandmother and wife. Unfortunately, my wife reacted with horror. This might not be suitable for women in their 30's. Conversely, I'm enamored with this fragrance! It exudes a beautiful, feminine essence. The notes of amber sweetened by honey, vanilla, licorice, cozy spices, light florals, musk, and distinctive undertones are remarkable.
Even though I think I purchased a revised version, this is still my first vintage scent. I thoroughly enjoy it! Although I'm not from Philippines, I concur with ronin.jose's assessment that it has a strong "Old lady at a Catholic church" vibe 🙏. Initially, I thought: back in the day when I was a struggling college student seeking to have fun, one of my go-to drinks was cheap bourbon and root beer. Tabu isn't a boozy fragrance, but it still captures that essence of an adult twist on root beer. Moreover, Tabu is precisely the type of bold, evening-worthy perfume one *would* (and *should*) wear while enjoying a night out 🍸. I genuinely like Tabu, but I'm not exactly the kind of woman who Tabu is designed for. I'll continue to experiment and find the right fit 🔥
I purchased this perfume due to its Coca-Cola inspired scent. Upon initial application, I experienced a headache-inducing sensation. However, the dry down is more pleasant. My feelings towards this fragrance are mixed; there were times when I disliked it and others when I enjoyed it. The notes of coca cola, incense, medicine, old cabinet, and vintage dominate my perception. For me, it's a 50/50 proposition.
