Reviews

I get dior tobacolor kind of vibes from this one.

After building this up in my mind for a very long time, I finally got a sample, and Vanille Havane turns out to be a disappointment for me, unfortunately. It is a mild, soft projecting, dry powdery/sandalwoody scent with some cocoa powder, disappointingly weak tobacco and it’s only mildly boozy. It is not rich like I thought it would be, nor do I sense much bourbon vanilla or fruits. I’m trying it in summer air conditioning, but if I blow hot air on my wrist the tobacco does bloom more and just a touch of fruitiness comes out, so maybe wearing in the heat or a warmer body temperature is needed. Even if I warm it up, however, it’s mildly pleasant but just too powdery for my taste. It’s nothing close to Baque, btw, I’m afraid it’s a pass.

Vanille Havane moved straight up on my "Pirate of the 7 Seas" list. Mona di Orio's Vanille, which others have pointed out as similar, happens to be on that list too. But when Vanille take the route via the hazardous waters of Kapp Horn, Vanille Havane is relaxing with a glass of the finest rum and a cigar. A bit sweeter then Vanille and not that heavy on the woods. Breezier in a way. Also, I love that hint of dried fruits that whiffs along all the way. In fact, Vanille Havane reminds me of one of my grandfathers who sailed for many years. Always elegantly dressed,( think Marlon Brando), with tattoos and bejewelled rings. He had a very elegant box of cigars that he opened now and then. Very nice memories and this perfume reminds me of him.

Aeternitas, which Vanillas do you prefer?
