I'm kind of torn about this one. On the one hand, it's so unique and out there, very niche, unusual and true to the material. On the other, it's very medicinal, so strong I can taste it in my mouth after one spray, kind of soapy and just plain weird. I adore ylang (chanel no 22, anyone?) but this is not something I want to smell like. Part of it is just too true to the material and the other part is this cheap synthetic vanilla note that pops up at random intervals. I've been looking for a real ylang fragrance. This might be a case of "be careful what you wish for."
Hands down one of the best ylangs. If you're a fan of ylang-ylang, you will love it. What can I even say? There is a decent amount of vanilla in here but this is dominated by ylang-ylang in all her power and glory. For better or worse. Very sweet, creamy, banana custardy, humid, languid, bright, tropical. The queen of yellow flowers, long may she reign.
Tried 3 Ylang frags (Chloe Ylang Cananga, Micallef Ylang in Gold, Perris Monte Carlo Nosy Be). This one is my fav out of the 3 as it’s more floral and lacks a banana custard note like in the Chloe (the Micallef is synthetic banana musk candy which turns my stomach. Nosy Be has a sophisticated feel and is slightly spice tinged but what I like most is that it’s ambery and slightly aquatic, like a strongly Ylang version of vintage Dior Dune.
I thought I’d love this based on the notes and instead it smells like something my late grandmother would have worn. It smells extremely dated albeit done with decent quality ingredients. I don’t know if it’s a specific ingredient or the way this is composed. I’d say definitely try before you buy.
A creamy unctuous vanilla yellow floral bomb. Smells like tropical banana custard. This is a gorgeous, addictive and exotic ylang ylang forward scent.
