this stuff is by far my fave Pd'E and among my absolute top orange frags and even a solid chypre. i love the dichotomy of juicy & dusty at the same time! many aspects of orange are present, including a convincingly sharp and badass petitgrain that sits beautifully with the slowly developed woody notes toward the end. the green comes from Corticchiato's herbal wizardry and he has produced somethong creative and so wearable. kudos
Beside the perspiring oranges of a hot July day in a clay bowl, I sit there, indolent, watching the condensation slide along the surface, then fall, drop by drop, and I ponder my bandwidth for any semblance of physical activity. It is so hot, the evergreens outside my window exhale their own beautifully ambivalent aromas in the thick air. On the radio, Dan Fogelberg's "Make Love Stay" plays, with its languid sax solo, then Wings' "With a Little Luck." The kitchen is decorated with bright bakelite items and the distant smoke of Dad's Chesterfields is detected. "There is no end to what we can do together...." The dog days of summer are penetrating me now. Azemour Les Oranger sends its citruses to a more unkempt, human place. It feels sweet, zesty, then rough-rindy, humid and on the verge of brutish. It straddles between the stoic and the vulnerable. It isn't just the tangerines that are ripe here. Bodies are ripe, emotions are ripe. The succor of this scent is in its refusal to be an antiseptic fantasy. It doesn't just sit on the skin—it makes love to it.
This fragrance has received very positive feedback from the fragrance community. The inspiration for this fragrance is the landscape scene inspired by an orange grove in Azemmour, Morocco, where Marc-Antoine was born. The scenery and the notes used in this fragrance remind me of the city I grew up. So I like this fragrance a lot. The signature of the Parfum d'Empire house is aromatic and green accords which are presented here. Like many other fragrances from this house, this gives it the vibe of a rural area and village, rather than the modern shiny downtown of big cities. The fragrance has a nice narrative on your skin and there is a dance of notes on the skin, starting with slightly sweet, fresh orange and citrus accord and then a playful presence of spicy notes and floral notes. This is a very interesting fragrance in this regard. 9/10
Azemour Les Orangers starts with lots and lots of zesty citrus notes: sweet neroli, sour and zesty orange peel and a hint of spice underneath. As the scent develops it becomes more green and grapefruity than orangy. I smell fir, oakmoss and some geranium in the background. There's still lots of juicy lemon and orange fruit notes floating on top. In the drydown the hay notes are prominent, the scent becomes a bit dryer and dustier. Sillage and longevity are moderate. The top notes are great and juicy, but the drydown does not compute with my skin chemistry. Fir seems to develops into something really nasty on my skin. It is not too prominent in this scent though-- but still too much for me to wear. I sense a tiny bit of ambroxan in the drydown as well. Try this one if you like fresh juicy orange scents. I'm not sure if I would classify this one as unisex, it smells quite masculine to me. Or maybe I just want to smell this on a man...
-Opens smelling fresh, light and mildly spicy. -Definitely an invigorating summery scent. -Dry down is reminiscent of dried grass. Perhaps, hay? -Azemour shares the same vintage vibe as L'heure Bleue by Guerlain. A scent from another era...probably the 1940s. Except Azemour is less powdery, and more chypre than L'heure Bleue. -Longevity is much weaker than L'heure Bleue, at a mere 1-3 hours. (-)
