This perfume launches with an overpowering bitterness, almost to an extreme degree. Once it mellows out, a familiar 'gin and tonic' accord begins to emerge, as others have noted. Unfortunately, the longevity of this scent is disappointing, fading quickly within 2-3 hours without leaving any noticeable trail behind. I would advise against investing in this perfume.
The opening notes of juniper are prominent, complemented by subtle vetiver and citrus. I also detect undertones of pepper, sweetness, cherry, and amber. The scent is reminiscent of a gin and tonic, but without the boozy quality. Overall, the fragrance presents as clean and fresh, evoking Voyage d'Hermes.
This scent is more commendable than I initially anticipated based on its composition. The freshness of orange is quite pronounced, alongside subtle fruity and spicy undertones from pepper and cardamom. However, the woody aspect prevails, with vetiver taking center stage. While it's not as prominent as in other woody fragrances, it still makes an appearance. Unfortunately, the leather note clashes with my skin chemistry, rendering it unsuitable for me to wear. Nevertheless, this could be a lovely fragrance for someone who appreciates these specific notes.
The initial burst of black pepper is quite jarring for me, and if that were toned down, I'd consider this perfume flawless.
I was introduced to Penhaligon’s scent library through a sample, and I instantly fell for it. The juniper berries in this fragrance leave a strong impression on me, exuding a refreshing, uplifting, and sophisticated aroma. The longevity is impressive for an EDT, a testament to the brand's skill. While the sillage is moderate, I'm content as long as I can still detect its presence for extended periods. The scent doesn't undergo significant changes after the initial application, which suits me just fine, as juniper berries take center stage and I adore it. Notably, I don't pick up on the base notes mentioned – vetiver, sugar, cherry, or amber – instead, this EDT presents itself as dry, crisp, and invigorating. I've since acquired a 100ml bottle, which brings me immense joy!
