You can't grasp the essence of this scent by reading its notes alone, much like the previous reviewer, I too made a blind purchase despite mixed reviews. Unfortunately, my second experience with this perfume was marred by an unpleasant first hour of wear, leaving me considering adding it to my list of unsuccessful blind buys. However, as it's a Serge fragrance, I'm torn; the dry down is surprisingly pleasant.
Bapteme du Feu evokes festive associations with Christmas and New Year's Eve. Upon application, its citrusy notes of mandarins and oranges emerge, occasionally accompanied by the crispness of a classic male citrus cologne. The sweet undertones from gingerbread provide a harmonious balance to these scents, giving rise to a robust, spicy gingerbread profile that resonates with Christmas traditions. In addition, I find myself reminded of New Year's Eve due to an undisclosed gunpowder note that, in the official description from SL, references shooting ranges at funfairs. As someone who prefers claw cranes, this metallic tingle conjures up images of firecrackers on NYE instead. For me, Bapteme du Feu is a concept-driven fragrance, capturing the essence of Christmas with its citrus and sweet notes, as well as grandpa's old-school cologne. The small fireworks on the street during New Year's celebrations are also palpable. Notably, I consider this scent to be unisex due to its universal appeal; however, it is not a perfume that I would personally wear.
This scent had me hooked from the start, thanks to its unique physical sensation - it felt like a refreshing mentholated cream on my skin when I applied it. What really drew me in, though, was its texture, which was unlike anything I've experienced before. It's hard to describe, but it was fuzzy and gritty at the same time! This was a game-changer for me, as I usually dislike perfumes that rely heavily on molecules and synthetic notes. But this one struck a chord with its subtle, gentle quality.
Cirque Rouge by Marc Chagall, a fragrance from the past. 🕰️
A rebellious and edgy scent that evokes the image of a post-apocalyptic pharmacy in disarray. The aroma is marked by a lingering presence of iodine tinctures, with hints of shattered glass and explosive gunpowder. This intense fragrance seems to scream "annihilation" rather than whisper sweet nothings, making it an unlikely candidate for those seeking comfort or subtlety.
