I'm trying to decide between purchasing Aqua di Gio and YSL Y EdP, based on their longevity and projection.
This scent receives excessive praise in my opinion. It's pleasant, I'll admit, but familiar and unremarkable at best. For those just starting their fragrance journey, it might be an impressive "masterpiece," but for anyone with experience, its magic wears off quickly. The scent's linearity doesn't help; while some notes may evolve slightly in the dry-down, there are no dramatic shifts to justify calling it a complex fragrance. The longevity is decent, lasting around 8-10 hours on skin. As for versatility, I give it full marks – it can work well in both formal and informal settings, warm or cool climates, thanks to its adaptable marine and incense notes. All in all, it's an average scent that doesn't live up to the hype.
Here's a rewritten version of the comment in a communication speaking tone: The perfume initially bursts with synthetic citrus and a classic salty aquatic accord, subtly sweet and impressively balanced. While my skin tends to amplify and hold onto the incense and patchouli notes over time, this results in an oily, dirty oriental aquatic blend that's noticeable. I detect hints of Acqua di Gio's DNA beneath the overwhelming patchouli, but when I look past it, the remaining scent is quite attractive and pleasant. The top notes feature rosemary, sage, and geranium with sweeter and spicier aspects, resting on a sweet, musky watery base reminiscent of Calone or Cascalone. As the dry down approaches, the incense's oiliness fades, but the patchouli's lingering presence remains. Despite potential issues with patchouli amplification, this perfume didn't quite deliver its promised clean profile – perhaps contributing to its lackluster sales and eventual replacement by Profumo. Still, I appreciate that the patchouli isn't overpowering, making it a balanced blend from start to finish. While not uniquely distinctive, considering its mainstream status and bold use of patchouli and incense, this scent remains distinct and far from characterless.
The 'Drakkar Noir' of all Acqua di Gio formulas - Esp Formula 1. 🌊 It's astonishing that in addition to five recent flankers, I've lost count of the number of mediocre variations, which feel like a jumbled mess of flavors. 😔 This lack of cohesion is infuriating! The new black bottles are particularly disappointing, as none of them capture the essence of true darkness. 🕷️ As someone who has curated hundreds of fragrances, I've come to appreciate the unique quality and artistry of Acqua di Gio's summer scent. Its dark, gothic, aquatic notes evoke a hauntingly beautiful evening atmosphere that sets it apart from other cold-weather perfumes in my collection. 🔥 I'm perplexed by the lack of continuity in their summer lines, which rarely venture beyond light blue or intense shades. It seems like they've forgotten how to take risks and push boundaries, unlike Acqua di Gio's bold approach. 😈 I strongly believe that ignorant reviews over the years have contributed to this brand's demise. Men should be allowed to smell edgy and old-worldly; it's time to stop apologizing for being different! 🔫
A timeless masterpiece that has become iconic for men's fragrance. It's regrettable that this gem is no longer in production. While I acknowledge its masculine appeal, which may not resonate with women as much. The absence of a suitable replacement once my supply runs out leaves me unimpressed with the Parfum option.
