Got a sample of this with another IA bottle. The opening has an asphalt note that does disipate fairly quickly. It then becomes more leathery. I normally don't like leather scents because I find I can smell like a new leather sofa, but there are notes in here that keep it quite fresh. After it completely dries down, it does smell like vetiver on me as someone else mentioned.
this and City on Fire are my new favorites! this one has a nice fresh spicy note that is strong for me and it goes really well with that asphalt smell. it's a mildly evil fragrance. i love it!
Probably my favorite IA frag. I hated this at first and almost wrote it off completely, but then I read Fragriminator’s review and seriously… if you wait out the punch in the face with a leather boxing glove, it turns into something really great. Sweet and moody and deep. I mean seriously, their review is 100% spot on.
The Cobra and The Canary took a few wears for me to appreciate, so I wouldn't say it's an crowd-pleaser or compliment-getter. The first wear was probably my first exposure to the leather/rubber note, and tbh I was repelled. A few wears and other rubbery-leather fragrances later, now it's a note I can appreciate. The acrid part is more prominent here, making it into more of an asphalt. Also grassy and dry - there's the hay. Later the sharpest elements soften, and an inoffensive lemon lifts up the iris to be airier and less orris-y. It leans masculine and I think that's because of the asphalt opening. It's intense and commanding in the beginning, pleasant iris on the back end. Really, anyone who's into the leather/rubber note could rock this.
I purchased several samples from Imaginary Authors fragrances and The Cobra and The Canary is my favorite of the 5 I have tried. I have a bottle of Bruno Fazzolari's Ummagumma and they are similar. The Cobra and The Canary is a less intense version and more wearable in the spring than Ummagumma. Love it, but The Cobra and the Canary is more wearable. More of a masculine fragrance to my nose, the leather and the hay notes stick out more complimented with a litte of the citrus smell. Really nice.
