Reviews

Let me preface this by saying though i have several dozen fragrances, i'm not gifted at discerning the notes throughout development. I am a daily straight razor shaver, so you might say i love barbershop fragrances. I have and love Rive Gauche - and this definitely has similarities. This fragrance has a certain feel to it though, that i find in scents like Antaeus, New York Intense, and believe it or not - Eau Sauvage parfum. There is a complexity and depth to these that BDJ also has. There is classiness and old school feel and it's an almost narcotic. This narcotic effect i find in BDJ is very similar to Eau Sauvage Parfum. I think there are major differences for sure but as a whole it has a similar feel as Eau Sauvage parfum - my bottle is 2016. Combined with body heat, this stuff does become intoxicating and it lasts forever. Another lavender worth checking out is Nicolai Amber Oud. It's insanely good. It's mostly lavender.

This is too aromatic for my taste. When I sprayed it for the first time, I really liked it instantly and still like it but it goes and goes and goes for hours and becomes too much. If it had a bolder amber or wam spices, it might have been easier to deal with it for me but it's very aromatic, green, kid of medicinal and bitter sour that makes it unenjoyable when it goes for half a day. Again I really like the smell but don't want to continuously smelling it for a good half a day. And I definitely don't get the comparison to Zino. I don't have an older bottle of that but the new one smells really synthetic and not like this at all. Layering this with Jubilation XXV makes it a lot more enjoyable for me.

Similar to BDJ Signature, but less ambery and more herbaceous. Longevity is maybe better on Private Blend.

I feel it has the floral dark base of Noir once it starts to dry down. It is way more minimal than the Noir, which gives it very contemporary edge. It is a remarkable fragrance that I loved since the first sniff. I find it very all around scent, as it could be worn in the summer and winter, formal and casual. It is slowly becoming my signiture scent. As a person who used the Noir and Tuscan Leather as main fragrances, this one is a great hit for me. I find it aromatic with touch of powder smell and barber influences. It is very contemporary fragrance with elements which respect the past, this fragrance is the way 2019 smells and feels like so far. It is definitely masculine and vibrant smell.

Tom Ford has released a lot of masculine style scents over the last few years, for me, this is the most successful. Starting off with a heavy blast of herbs (that to be honest, I find too much), this dries down to a very nice, subtle spicy fragrance that works remarkably well. The lavender/oakmoss/amber blend lends the predictable barber shop feel, but every now and again the mint peaks out in the most delightful way. Nothing revolutionary, but strangely addictive. Incredibly strong with a vast sillage - Beau de jour has me wanting to purchase it.
